On Grudges

Rule: A gentleman forgives, but never forgets


A gentleman is admired for his adherence to the ancient roman virtues. Consequently, he understands that humility is rooted in the belief that if having been raised in the same manner, with identical life circumstances, then the gentleman would have acted similarly. It is through this fundamental understanding that the gentleman is able to embark on the journey toward forgiveness. Nevertheless, he must remain au courant of the past in order to avoid repeat performances of malignant behavior.

Rule in practice
: Having been swindled by a charlatan charity in the past, the gentleman is quick to consider a donation but acts in haste to cut a check. While he understands and forgives the charlatan charity for its devious deed, he is ever the wiser by remembering his previous encounters.

On Sincerity to Ladies

Rule: The gentleman exists only as a medium to win the love and affection of a lady.


A gentleman must show sincerity to a lady and be cognizant to use only words that are appeasing to her ear in pitch and in combination. Through sincerity the gentleman is able to capture a ladies attention and begin the medium of dialogue. If lacking a desire to continue the wooing, the lady can at least rejoice in the continued high character and sincerity of the gentleman who remains honest, kind, and considerate of the ladies feelings, thoughts, and property.

Rule in practice: Upon entering a dialogue with a lady the gentleman shall state his heart's intentions clearly as not to mislead the lady. Stating that he wishes to court her further, she is free to accept or reject the offer of courtship. This renders the lady in control and in no fear of the gentlemans thoughts, words, and deeds.

Defining the Role- Part III

Rule: A gentleman is a talented individual with refined taste and vast mastery.


A gentleman must be well versed in art, geography, science, history, literature, sports, language, religion, music, cooking and dancing. It is through these mediums that he competes as well as entertains. Deep passion is characteristic of the gentleman and is readily apparent  when he opens his mouth or gestures his hand.

Rule in practice: Standing juxtapose to a lady at an art gallery exhibit who appears to be befuddled, it is the duty of the gentleman to offer his services and render insight to the paintings historical and metaphysical roots.

Defining the Role- Part II

Rule: Appearance is of the utmost importance to a gentleman.


A gentleman-in-training must present himself in a manner that is pleasing to the senses of scent and sight. In doing so he removes all grime, maintains all hair, and perfumes all over. A gentleman must be well shaved with ironed clothes. The cleanliness of a gentleman's shoes  reflects highly on his dedication to the art of being a gentleman. While some beasts might present the façade of gentleman-like dress, they will never attain the level of gentleman shoe cleanliness until becoming a gentleman themselves. The reward for such appearance is the privilege to be in the company of ladies.

Areas most overlooked: breath, ears, cuticles, & shoes.

Defining the Role- Part I

Rule: A gentleman must always know his place.


This rule helps the gentleman not only define his role, but consequently define the roles of those around him. Acting accordingly, a gentleman will become cognizant of what he should and should not do. It is this very foresight that allows the gentleman to exist.

Rule in practice: A gentleman shall abstain from touching things that are unclean. However, knowing his role while in the presence of a lady, shall sacrifice his own cleanliness for hers. Thus, a gentleman shall touch doors and chairs in the presence of a lady as to maintain her decorum.
