On Grudges

Rule: A gentleman forgives, but never forgets

A gentleman is admired for his adherence to the ancient roman virtues. Consequently, he understands that humility is rooted in the belief that if having been raised in the same manner, with identical life circumstances, then the gentleman would have acted similarly. It is through this fundamental understanding that the gentleman is able to embark on the journey toward forgiveness. Nevertheless, he must remain au courant of the past in order to avoid repeat performances of malignant behavior.

Rule in practice
: Having been swindled by a charlatan charity in the past, the gentleman is quick to consider a donation but acts in haste to cut a check. While he understands and forgives the charlatan charity for its devious deed, he is ever the wiser by remembering his previous encounters.
