Defining the Role- Part I

Rule: A gentleman must always know his place.

This rule helps the gentleman not only define his role, but consequently define the roles of those around him. Acting accordingly, a gentleman will become cognizant of what he should and should not do. It is this very foresight that allows the gentleman to exist.

Rule in practice: A gentleman shall abstain from touching things that are unclean. However, knowing his role while in the presence of a lady, shall sacrifice his own cleanliness for hers. Thus, a gentleman shall touch doors and chairs in the presence of a lady as to maintain her decorum.
